To me, the human capacity to make things with our hands and mind is magic. The way a stone, bit of metal, a twig, shell, or even a piece of trash can be transformed into something useful, beautiful, meaningful; that is real alchemy. It is this power that draws me to making things. This is a sampling of my art jewelry creations. The designs are all original; influenced by my industrial design training and driven by my passion for pretty rocks and playing with fire. Some pieces have found homes, others are for sale in my etsy store (www.etsy.com/shop/DeborahLaun) Please contact me if you have any questions.
Necklaces are probably my favorite jewelry form. I can combine stones and bead crochet and silver work in so many interesting ways. Each piece can be as unique as the person who wears it.

These ultra slim 8GB flash drives are the perfect platform for miniature works of art. Mostly I make tiny bas relief designs in fine silver clay, but I have also cut stones and glass as well as formed brass and copper to fit. These then are put on an adjustable chain to be worn as a pendant, or attached to a small stainless stain key fob

This was a custom design. The fleur de lis was the requested theme. The shape alone did not fit well on the panel, but by splitting it, interesting forms and negative spaces were created. Accented with gold leaf kuem boo and patina.
Commissioned
Created with real ferns pressed into silver clay. The panel is then textured and fired and a patina is added to bring out the forms.

I found the rock in the center in Newfoundland (aka The Rock) in 2013. I was originally thinking it would be a pendant so I cut it into an oval. I was not feeling it so I decided to use it to embellish an old cedar box I had. I stitched the bezel and beads to a piece of cloth in a pattern echoing the stone. To attach it to the box I cut and flattened copper pipe to make a frame and painted the sides of the box. This was a project that started with no real vision of the final design. As I finished each step, I figured out the solution for the next.
